Minnetrista is a 30 square mile city in Hennepin County. In the early 1970’s, Minnetrista was incorporated as a city. However, the history of the area dates back to the 1850’s. In 1851, the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux was signed organizing the territory of Minnesota and Minnetrista was included in this treaty. The Dakota Indians, who had previously resided in the area, left the area and the first European Settlers were not far behind. Frank W. Halsted was one of the first notable early settlers. He built a small cottage on Lake Minnetonka in the bay that would eventually bear his name, Halsteds Bay. He was a Captain in the Navy and left to fight in the Civil War. He returned with Distinction from the Navy and built a larger home and became a Justice of the Peace and later solemnized the first marriage in Minnetrista. Fast forward, 160 years and Minnetrista is a thirty square mile city with a population of around 7,000 people.
Minnetrista has experienced a lot of growth in the past twenty years. Formerly, the city was almost entirely agricultural and farmland, but in recent years, many new developments have come along and filled the fields with neighborhoods. Some of the newest developments are Red Oak of Minnetrista, Serenity Hill on Halstead Bay, Woodland Cove, and Waterset. In addition to the city being located on some excellent Lake Minnetonka bays, the city also has several smaller lakes that offer its residents lake living off of Lake Minnetonka.
Minnetrista operates its own police department and is served by Mound Fire Department and St. Bonifacius Fire Department. Minnetrista is an extremely safe place to live with a crime rate lower than 90% of all US cities.
You can’t mention Minnetrista without mentioning horses. In staying with its roots, Minnetrista has a large amount of the city designated as agricultural land use. Any parcel of land over five acres can house horses. So whether you're a potential owner of horses or looking for nearby stables, Minnetrista is a great place for you to live.
