Welcome to Plymouth

"Seventh Largest City in Minnesota"

The city of Plymouth can be traced back to its original inhabitants, the Dakota Indians, to 1500 AD. Medicine Lake, located in Plymouth, was named after the Dakota word Mdewakanton meaning Spirit of the Lake. The Dakota named the lake after a warrior who overturned his canoe and his body was never found.

Plymouth incorporated as a village in 1955 and officially became a statutory city in 1974. Plymouth was named by Money Magazine as the number one city to live in within the United States! The magazine bestowed this honor because of its neighborhoods, industry, parks, schools and other aspects that make Plymouth unique.

Plymouth is the seventh largest city in Minnesota. Located 15 miles west of downtown Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Plymouth is a great community for people who commute. The population is roughly 77,216 as of 2016.

The city has come up with an unique formula for its city planning. The new construction and creation of new neighborhoods is unparalleled by any other lake community, but the city has made the park system, trail system and recreation facilities a top priority. The city has done a phenomenal job preserving natural open spaces and protecting the environment even with the booming new construction and retail expansion.

If you demand new construction, Plymouth is the city for you. The amount of new construction homes and neighborhoods is unparalleled and growth has been incredible these last few years.
