Woodland is a charming little town on the South East side of Wayzata Bay. The views of downtown Wayzata are unparalleled from its shoreline. Woodland has an ideal location, an easy commute to downtown Minneapolis and all the amenities of having larger cities around you such as Wayzata and Excelsior. The city of Woodland was incorporated in 1947, but has had residents since the 1870’s. The land, approximately .8 square miles, was originally purchased from the Native Americans in the 1800’s. Now Woodland is a residential community with approximately 500 residents and 190 households. It is the smallest city in Hennepin County. For its relatively small size of around .8 square miles, it has a surprisingly large amount of lake shore with 5.9 miles of shoreline on Lake Minnetonka.
Included in Woodland’s lakeshore is a little bay called Woolsey Pond. As you are coming in from the channel off of Wayzata Bay, you feel like you might be on the Jungle Safari boat cruise at Disneyworld or Disneyland. Grand drooping willow trees, lily pads, and lots of wildlife make this little back channel a must-see on the Lake. There are no retail or restaurants in Woodland. It is such a small little city that their city hall is located with Greenwood and Deephaven’s City Hall off of Carson’s Bay.
The Deephaven Police Department and Wayzata Fire Department keep the residents of Woodland safe. There have been zero report of violent crime and Woodland’s violent crime rate was 100% lower than the national average. Woodland is among the top 50 Highest Income places in the United States and ranks above any other Minnesota city on the list making it one of the wealthiest cities in Minnesota.
Woodland is located within the Minnetonka School District. Minnetonka School District is nationally recognized as one of the best school districts in the state. It currently has 10,600 students enrolled in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Minnetonka School District serves families in the Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Victoria and Woodland areas. 91% of Minnetonka High School graduates are college bound and over 97% of the students who attend MHS graduate. The Minnetonka School District has six elementary schools including Spanish and Chinese immersion schools, two middle schools and one high school.
Residents of Woodland would attend Groveland Elementary, Minnetonka Middle School East, and Minnetonka High School.
With only 190 households in Woodland and a majority of them being on the Lake, real estate in Woodland is at a premium. The lots tends to be large and are located on Wayzata Bay. Wayzata Bay has a water quality rating of A from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District which helps drive a premium for the lakeshore lots with such a high water quality rating. The average Woodland home sold in 2017 for $1,668,351 with 290 days on market.
